With cacao, toasted hazelnuts, kale, and chia, this rich and healthy chocolate smoothie is a great way to start the day with greens and Omega-3-rich seeds. Vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, refined sugar-free.
1small frozenbanana OR 2 to 3 medjool dates - Or other sweetener of choice; for sweeter smoothie use more fruit or add stevia or maple syrup.
1Tbspchia, flax or hemp seeds
pinch ofsea salt - reduces bitterness of kale
largehandful of ice
Instructions
Combine all ingredients except ice in a blender, and blend until mostly smooth.
Add ice, and blend again until thick and creamy. As with most smoothies, this is best consumed immediately. But you can also refrigerate it after blending to enjoy later in the day.
Notes
Smoothie Tips:
Start on low, and gradually increase the speed of the blender to high.
If needed, stop to stir the ingredients or add liquid.
Since this kale smoothie isn't made with a lot of frozen fruit, you may want to add ice. Ice also makes it nice and frothy.
To make it more filling, add a scoop of plant-based chocolate protein powder.
